India's Border Security Force said it had shot dead a Pakistani who it said had crossed the border despite warnings to stop, AFP reported.
A statement from the Border Security Force said its officers had spotted a "suspicious person approaching the border fence" in Banaskantha district in the northwestern Indian state of Gujarat last night. The man did not obey the border guards' order to stop, prompting them to open fire on the intruder.
Tensions between Delhi and Islamabad have been at their peak since militants attacked Indian-controlled Kashmir on April 22, killing 25 Indian tourists and a Nepali national and injuring about 20 others. On May 7, the Indian Air Force attacked targets in Pakistan and in the Islamabad-controlled part of Kashmir, triggering a series of rocket, drone and artillery strikes. The four-day conflict ended with an agreement for a complete and immediate ceasefire.
