London to build at least six new weapons factories

The plan is part of a 10-year plan to develop the UK's defense capabilities

The British government has announced that it will build at least six new weapons factories as part of a major 10-year plan to develop the UK's defense capabilities, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The investment worth about 1.5 billion pounds ($2 billion) is part of the plan called the Strategic Defense Review. About 6 million of the additional funding is for missiles.

The Ministry of Defence has said it intends to introduce up to 7,000 new long-range missiles made in the UK.

The government's planned measures will create around 1,800 jobs.

The Strategic Defence Review is due to be published on Monday.

"The hard-won lessons of Russian President Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine show that an army is only as strong as the industry that supports it," said Defence Secretary John Healy. "We are strengthening the UK's industrial base to better deter our adversaries and make the UK secure at home and strong abroad," Healy added.
