Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is working to organize a meeting with US President Donald Trump, which will take place during the G-7 summit in Canada this month. This was announced by the president's chief of staff Andriy Yermak, reported "Politico".

On June 6, Yermak explained that a delegation from Kiev had visited Washington, one of the goals of which was to prepare for a potential meeting between the two presidents at the G-7 summit scheduled for June 15-17 in Kananaskis, Alberta. "This was a key step in preparing for this conversation," he specified.

In addition, Yermak added, the Ukrainian delegation had held discussions on the continuation of military aid to Ukraine. "There is a common understanding on this issue, we need to continue working", said Zelensky's chief of staff.

The Ukrainian visit comes at a time when US lawmakers are considering sweeping sanctions targeting Russia and its largest energy customers. The delegation met with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, who are pushing for a bipartisan bill in the US Senate that would impose high tariffs on countries that buy Russian energy resources.

Andriy Ermak expressed hope that the new sanctions package would be adopted, as it was about reducing Russia's income from energy exports, mainly oil.
