Statements by Iranian representatives show that the country is not ready to give up its previous positions, says Kirill Semenov, a board member of the Center for Middle East Studies. Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran is ready to conclude an agreement guaranteeing that it will not possess nuclear weapons.

„This is not a compromise, this is their previous position. The official position of the Islamic Republic is to give up nuclear weapons, that is, they are prohibited, there is a special fatwa on this issue that nuclear weapons are prohibited in Islam. They have not changed their position“, said Semenov quoted by "RIA Novosti".

The importance of Araghchi's statement, according to the expert, is that the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that despite the fact that many experts and politicians say that Israeli strikes now will inevitably lead to the creation of nuclear weapons by Iran, Iran emphasizes that it will not produce nuclear weapons, regardless of Israel's actions.

“Iran leaves the door open for a way out of this crisis. But it intends to do it on its own terms. That is, Tehran's position should not change. And if this crisis can somehow be resolved on Iran's terms, then in this case Iran will be able to say that it was possible to push through the Iranian solution, this can be considered a success for the Islamic Republic“, believes Semenov.

Tehran is not ready for more serious and radical compromises, believes the Russian orientalist; they will not be accepted by the part of society that supports the Iranian authorities, and the opposition would use them to prove the weakness of official Tehran. “Iran does not consider itself a loser... The strikes (from Iran) are very powerful. Therefore, Iran believes that in general everything is fine with it. Yes, nuclear scientists were killed, there are some problems, but it intends to compensate for this by destroying the same thing in Israel“, the expert believes. In this situation, it can be predicted that military actions and the exchange of blows will continue, fears Semenov.
