US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that peace will soon be established between Iran and Israel, noting that meetings and phone calls are currently taking place to this end.

The American leader wrote on Truth Social that Iran and Israel should reach an agreement to end hostilities. According to Trump, this could be similar to the way India and Pakistan overcame a recent round of tensions between them, accompanied by the use of military force. The American leader claims to have ensured this, in particular through agreements with India and Pakistan on trade with the United States.

Trump expressed confidence that during his first presidential term he managed to prevent a conflict between Serbia and unrecognized Kosovo, as well as to avoid an escalation between Egypt and Ethiopia over the project to build a hydroelectric power plant "Renaissance" on the Blue Nile. "Thanks to my intervention, peace has been preserved, at least for now, and it will be so in the future," the American leader believes. "In the same way, we will soon have peace between Israel and Iran!" "They are now having a lot of phone calls and meetings," he added.

The situation around Iran will be one of the main topics at the G7 summit in Canada, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told reporters.

"One of the topics will of course be the very pressing issue of the conflict in the Middle East," Merz told reporters before flying to the summit. The text of his statement was released by the German government's press service.

The Chancellor explained that the participants in the meeting will discuss the situation related to the Iranian nuclear program and the recent Israeli strikes on targets in Iran.

Merz stressed that Germany and the G7 countries are in favor of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons and consider Israel's right to defend its security justified.

He also called for preventing the spread of the conflict and said that Germany was preparing for possible threats on its territory. “I would like to add: We are also preparing in Germany in the event that Iran attacks Israeli or Jewish targets in Germany“, he explained.

The Chancellor also noted the need for diplomatic dialogue and reported that Israel had asked Germany to provide it with fire-fighting equipment. “We will start this immediately“, Merz said.

The G7 summit will be held in Kananaskis, Canada this year. It was previously scheduled to take place from June 15 to 17, but Kyodo news agency reported that the opening has been postponed to June 16. The summit is attended by seven countries (Germany, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Japan), as well as representatives of the European Union and invited partner countries. As the organizers specify on the official portal of the event, the main topics will be international security, economic stability and digital technologies. The summit will be chaired by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
