Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez called on Tuesday for an arms embargo on Israel as the war in the Gaza Strip continues and urged the resumption of negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

"We, the European Union, are Israel's largest trading partner in the world, the European Union," he told Bloomberg TV. "We need to impose an arms embargo so that our European partners do not sell weapons to Israel while this war continues," he added.

Albarez stressed that he wanted the EU to act as it did after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces in early 2022 to try to achieve peace. He regretted that there were no signs of de-escalation in the conflict between Israel and Iran, and called for the resumption of negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program. "Let's stop this exchange of missile strikes," the Spanish foreign minister added to Bloomberg.

Iran's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Reza Najafi, speaking during an emergency meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), strongly condemned Israel's military attack on Iran's civilian nuclear facilities, calling it a "blatant example of state terrorism," the Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

According to the Iranian diplomat, Israel's actions are a gross violation of the UN Charter and the IAEA's founding documents.
