A nine-year-old boy has died after being hit by a police car in Antwerp. He was hit by a police van responding to an emergency while crossing the street, Belgian news agency Belga reported, citing local media, BTA reported.
The incident occurred at around 9:45 a.m. this morning. The police van received a call and was on its way to the scene of the accident. At the same time, a railway police car was on the street, swerving to let the van pass. It was then that the child was crossing the street and was hit.
Despite attempts at resuscitation at the scene, the child died. Police officers travelling in the van are receiving psychological help.
