Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezianu announced that specialized European institutions will investigate a case of a Romanian diplomat, an employee of the EU representation in the Russian Federation, who was allegedly beaten in Vladivostok, Digi24 and Agerpres report, BTA reports.

The clarifications were made at a press conference at the government building in Bucharest, after the minister was asked how he would comment on the information on this issue, published earlier today by the German publication “Spiegel“.

“We knew from the very beginning what it was about. We know the identity of the diplomat. She is an employee of the European Union's external diplomacy service. This happened at the end of May. The person has left the territory of the Russian Federation and is in complete safety and good health in Brussels. The specialized services of the European Commission, of the European Union, including at the level of investigations and conclusions, will fulfill their duty“, explained Hurezianu.

He added that the investigative services in Romania were also informed, and the diplomat in question also visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest two weeks ago.

Asked whether officers of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) carried out the beating, Emil Hurezianu replied that this aspect was under investigation.

“This is an assumption made by the “Spiegel“ reporter after an informal discussion, which turned into an official discussion with a representative of the European Union's external diplomatic service. This information is under investigation. "Only the specialized institutions of the body, the external diplomatic service of the European Union, whose employee is the Romanian diplomat, will have the conclusions," the relevant minister specified.

According to information from “Spiegel“, quoted by Digi24 and the newspaper “Adeverul“, the attack took place in Vladivostok at the end of May. The Romanian diplomat was there on a business trip as an employee of the EU representation. The woman wanted to take a walk in Vladivostok on the morning of May 26, at around 7:00 a.m. local time, because she could no longer sleep. After she left her hotel, a car stopped next to her and two men got out of it, who threatened and beat her. It is not known for sure whether the attackers were employees of the Russian secret service FSB, Digi24 indicates. After the incident, the woman was evacuated from the Russian Federation.
