Russian forces successfully hit a Ukrainian troops' position in the northeastern part of Sumy region with an "Iskander" missile, TASS news agency reported, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, BTA reported.

"The Russian armed forces launched a missile strike on the permanent deployment point of a unit of the 58th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Konotop in Sumy region. [...] As a result of the strike, four warehouses with military equipment, two trucks and over 60 Ukrainian nationalists were destroyed. "Various degrees of damage were inflicted on 13 drone control points and up to 50 units of Ukrainian Armed Forces equipment," the ministry said in a statement.

The target was hit by objective means of control, the ministry said, showing footage of the strike, TASS noted.

The Russian Defense Ministry did not specify the date of the strike, but Ukrainian authorities in the region earlier reported that a missile strike was carried out on Konotop yesterday with Iskander missiles, Reuters notes. The local administration said on Facebook that the strike damaged apartments in several high-rise buildings and that there were no injuries.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm the information from the battlefield.

The agency said that in recent days Ukraine has been trying to push Russian forces out of Sumy region, where border areas have been gripped by heavy fighting. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said over the weekend that Russia had massed 53,000 troops in the area.
