The candidate for director of South Korea's main intelligence agency has expressed confidence that the United States will strike North Korea with nuclear weapons if Pyongyang launches a nuclear attack on South Korea, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Lee Jong-seok expressed this position during a confirmation hearing.
Lee noted that the hypothetical scenario of South Korea being subjected to a nuclear attack by North Korea is directly related to Seoul's security alliance with Washington.
Lee was nominated to head South Korea's National Intelligence Service after the presidential election was won by leftist Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung.
