The United States is preparing for massive air strikes on Iranian territory this weekend. This was announced by the "Pulitzer" prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh, citing sources in Washington and Israeli insiders.
According to Hersh, the operation will include large-scale bombing. One of the senior officials in Washington, with whom the journalist checked his information, said that "everything will be under control" if Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei "leaves his post".
At the same time, as Hersh emphasizes, it is not clear how this can happen, "if not by removing him".
"There is a lot of talk about the strength of the American strike and the intended targets inside Iran, but as far as I know, there is still no clear plan on how to eliminate a respected religious leader with millions of supporters", the journalist noted.
Earlier, Trump did not rule out the possibility of striking Iran. The White House said on Thursday that the president would decide within two weeks whether the United States would strike Iran. As reported by the Axios portal on June 17, citing its sources, the head of the Washington administration is considering the possibility of the United States joining Israel's military operation against Iran and striking American forces at the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities.
