The highest temperature measured by the German Meteorological Service was 41.2 degrees in July 2019, while the temperature record for June was 39.6 degrees in the same year.

At the beginning of next week, maximum temperatures are expected to reach around 30 degrees.

The Earth's axis is slightly tilted as it orbits the sun. This means that the northern hemisphere is currently tilted towards the sun, and as a result, the days are long and the sun is high. During the summer solstice today, the sun is at its highest point above the horizon at noon, while during the winter solstice in December, the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun and the days are shorter, DPA notes.
