There are concerns about a possible Iranian response, said the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas to journalists before the start of today's extraordinary meeting of European foreign ministers in Brussels. Closing the Strait of Hormuz would be extremely dangerous and is not good for anyone, she warned.

Kallas announced that today the ministers would discuss the possibility of reaching a diplomatic solution with Iran. She noted that at last week's meeting in Geneva between representatives of Tehran, Paris, London, Berlin and the EU, the Iranian side had shown readiness for talks. If Iran is willing to talk, we should use this opportunity, she insisted.

The High Representative added that today's meeting would discuss the future of the agreement between the EU and Israel. According to her, the assessment is ready and a decision by the EU countries is pending.

We must continue the pressure on Moscow, the Russian attacks on Ukraine do not stop, said Kallas. She added that the EU insists on the adoption of more sanctions against the Russian side. Kallas pointed out that today, for the first time, EU foreign ministers will talk about China on issues related solely to security.
