China's permanent representative to the UN Fu Cong strongly condemned the US for its attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, Xinhua reported, BTA reported.

"On Saturday, the US launched strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. China firmly condemns these actions, which affect facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," Fu said at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council yesterday.

He stressed that the US actions grossly violate the UN Charter, international law, as well as Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to him, this further exacerbates tensions in the Middle East and undermines global efforts for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

"The international community should unite in defending justice and actively work to de-escalate the conflict, contributing to the restoration of peace and stability," he added.

The Chinese permanent representative to the UN called for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities. He expressed serious concern that the situation in the region could get out of control.

"We call on all parties, especially Israel, to cease fire and refrain from further escalation to prevent the conflict from escalating," the Chinese representative said. He added that the parties concerned should abide by international law, avoid resorting to force and prevent further escalation of tensions.
