Russian forces continue to make attempts at offensive operations in Sumy region. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to advance in the Oleksiyevka area, pushing Russian forces further away from Sumy. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
According to the General Staff, Russian troops continue to be active in the northern Sloboda direction, making attempts to storm Ukrainian positions in the border areas of Sumy region.
However, the situation has stabilized, with the AFU stopping the advance of Russian forces on a certain defensive line.
In particular, Russia was stopped in the direction of Yunakivka - Yablunivka - Novomykolaivka - Oleksiyevka - Kindrativka - to the border with the Russian Federation, including the stronghold of Russian forces in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding the line and at the same time preparing for counteroffensive actions. The first successes have already been registered: Ukrainian soldiers liberated the village of Andreevka and advanced in the Oleksiyevka area, pushing Russian forces further away from Sumy. This allowed not only to strengthen defensive positions, but also to create a basis for further pushing the occupiers from the border areas," the statement said.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia has deployed its best-trained units - marines, airborne and motorized infantry brigades - in the Severno-Slobozhansk direction. Russia is actively using long-range artillery, aircraft, and strike drones.
"Russian forces are attacking not only Ukrainian positions near the border in the Sumy region, but are also trying to drive the Defense Forces out of the Kursk and Belgorod regions of the Russian Federation, where Ukrainian soldiers are conducting combat operations".
"Nevertheless, the Ukrainian defenders are inflicting significant losses on Russia. In June 2025. In the Severno-Slobozhansk and Kursk directions, more than 9,300 Russian servicemen were killed: at least 4,470 of them were killed, about 4,800 were wounded, and 42 were taken prisoner.
Also, in June, 423 units of Russian military equipment were destroyed, including 6 tanks, 20 armored vehicles, 89 artillery systems and MLRS, and 3 air defense systems.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces are striking Russian forces at a depth of up to 100 km, including inside Russia. In June, they destroyed:
16 command posts,
8 command and observation posts,
6 personnel assembly areas,
warehouses for ammunition, drones and fuel,
2 repair bases, a logistics base and an oil depot.
Overall, since the start of Operation "Kursk" in August 2024, Russian losses in this area have exceeded 75,860 people, including more than 1,000 prisoners. Over 2,800 pieces of equipment have also been destroyed, including 99 tanks, 709 armored vehicles and 322 artillery systems.
