An English teacher at one of the most prestigious schools in the Indian city of Mumbai has been arrested on charges of sexual assault, Hindustan Times reported.
The publication indicates that the 40-year-old teacher repeatedly sexually abused her 11th grade student - the crimes were committed over a period of a year.
The English teacher has been detained on charges of “repeatedly sexually assaulting one of her students“. The 16-year-old boy initially resisted.
The teacher convinced one of her friends, who is not from the school, to call him and stand up for her. The friend, who has also been arrested, told the minor that relationships between older women and teenagers had "become quite common" and were the norm.
According to a source in the investigation, the first intimate encounter between the two took place at an "isolated location". The teacher put her student in her car, drove him to an isolated location, forcibly undressed him and sexually assaulted him.
In the following days, the boy even took anxiety pills. Subsequently, the teacher started taking him to various five-star hotels in south Mumbai and near the airport, where the two had a series of sexual encounters. She also often got him drunk before their meetings, the police added. The teacher's arrest has shocked the school, which is one of the most famous in the city.
According to sources in the Hindustan Times, the 16-year-old boy fell into depression and left the school in question. The teenager's family initially did not contact the police because they did not want publicity.
