A new fire broke out in Turkey last night. This time, the Çeşme resort on the Aegean coast was affected. The fire, which started in an agricultural area, grew into a forest fire. The flames, which reached the Izmir - Çeşme road, caused it to be closed in both directions, reported the Turkish state television “TRT Haber“, quoted by BTA.
The teams continue to work to control the fire, but due to the wind blowing at a speed of 85 kilometers per hour, it is growing. 6 planes, 19 helicopters, 39 water tanker trucks, 14 fire engines and 4 bulldozers are involved in extinguishing the fire. Heavy equipment has also been sent to the scene. Due to the danger to the population, residents of the Ulder and Germyan neighborhoods in Cesme, as well as the Nohutlan neighborhood in Urla, were evacuated.
The fire is advancing towards the “Aktash“ dam. In the area where the power went out, measures have been taken to prevent the fire from spreading to substations and enterprises.
Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban said that as of 8:30 p.m. last night, 217 cars and 738 personnel were at the scene, and the fire is still not under control. No people have been injured at this time, but damage has been caused to houses. Their description is pending.
A fire has also broken out in the area of the municipality of Ödemış, which is located in a forested area. The reasons for it are still unclear. Firefighters, forestry workers and heavy equipment were dispatched to the scene. Residents of the Tosunlar and Suchakti neighborhoods in the municipality were also evacuated.
