A passenger bus overturned overnight on the A19 motorway in the northeastern German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, injuring at least 20 people. One of the injured is in critical condition, a police spokesman said this morning, quoted by DPA, BTA reports.
The most seriously injured passenger was trapped in the crashed bus for two hours before being removed by emergency teams. Authorities are still determining the severity of the other injuries.
According to preliminary information, the bus of the German company “FlixBus“ veered to the right of the roadway and overturned. The causes of the accident remain unclear.
There were 53 passengers and two drivers on board the bus. The vehicle was traveling from Copenhagen to Vienna. The incident occurred at around 2:40 a.m. local time (3:40 a.m. Bulgarian time), near the exit for Robel in the direction of Berlin - about 150 km southeast of the German capital.
Emergency teams, including paramedics, firefighters and rescue helicopters, were sent to the scene of the accident. Officers from nearby police stations also arrived to support.
The A19 motorway has been completely closed following the incident, and it is currently unclear when traffic will be restored.
„FlixBus“ is a German company that offers cheap travel throughout Europe, mainly by bus, but also by train. Since 2018, the company has also operated in the United States.
