American entrepreneur Elon Musk said that he has changed his attitude towards US President Donald Trump because of the American leader's policies, which are leading to an increase in the country's budget deficit.
„Increasing the deficit from the crazy $2 trillion achieved under Biden to $2.5 trillion. This will bankrupt the country,” he wrote in X. Thus, the businessman answered a question from one of the platform users, who wondered what the main reason was that prompted Musk to radically change his attitude towards Trump.
Musk, who is the richest person on the planet, was until recently the coordinator of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and a US civil servant with a special status working on a voluntary basis. He was essentially part of the inner circle of the American leader. However, according to publications in the American press, behind the scenes the relationship between the president and the businessman began to deteriorate for a number of reasons, including those related to the entrepreneur’s business interests.
After Musk left civil service, the two organized a noisy public showdown on June 5 via social networks. The businessman said that without his support, Trump would not have won the November 2024 elections, approved the idea of a new attempt to impeach Trump, and criticized the government spending bill promoted by the US administration, which provides for an increase in the debt ceiling by $5 trillion.
On June 30, Musk announced that if this bill is passed, a new party will be founded the next day. On July 3, the House of Representatives of the US Congress followed the Senate and adopted this bill. On July 4, Trump signed it. On July 5, Musk announced the creation of the "America" party.
