Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev noted the growing authority of the BRICS against the backdrop of threats by US President Donald Trump to impose a 10% tariff on countries that support the association, TASS reports.

"BRICS is gaining authority. Trump announced that any country that supports BRICS policies will be subject to an additional 10% tariff. So we are doing everything right!", he wrote in X.

We recall that Trump stated that countries that support BRICS policies that contradict US interests will be affected by additional tariffs. On the social network Truth Social, he indicated that they would be subject to an additional 10% tariff.

His comment came after BRICS members criticized his customs policies and proposed reforms to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the way major currencies are valued.

Trump has long criticized BRICS, an alliance designed to strengthen the positions of member countries on the international stage to counter the United States and Western Europe.

In economic indicators, BRICS significantly outperforms a number of other similar organizations, including the G-7, where the total GDP, according to data for 2025, is actually a quarter lower. This was noted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his statement during the plenary session of the BRICS summit.

Last year, BRICS expanded beyond Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It was joined by Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The countries in the bloc represent more than half of the world's population.
