Germany is ready to buy additional Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems from the United States to provide them to Ukraine. This was announced by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Thursday during a conference in Rome dedicated to reconstruction and defense support for Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoted by News.bg.

“We are ready to buy additional Patriot systems from the United States to provide them to Ukraine“, Merz said, specifying that he had discussed the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other international leaders.

The chancellor indicated that last week he had made an official request to US President Donald Trump to provide additional Patriot systems. "The Americans also need them, but they have a lot... There is no decision yet on whether the delivery will be approved," he added.

According to Spiegel, no concrete agreement was reached during the conversation between Merz and Trump, nor was any official promise made by Washington. However, Berlin has demonstrated its readiness to play a more active role in strengthening Ukraine's air defense.
