Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoff has called on the European Union to remain united in order to reach a trade deal with the US amid US President Donald Trump's announcement of 30% tariffs on EU goods.

„The announcement of 30% tariffs on goods imported from the European Union is worrying and will not lead to progress. The European Commission can count on our support. As the EU, we must remain united and determined to reach a mutually beneficial solution with the US“, the prime minister said in a post on the social network X*.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced her continued intention to reach a trade agreement by August 1.

Trump said on Saturday that the US would impose 30% tariffs on goods from the European Union from August 1, while previously imposed sectoral tariffs would remain in place. In a letter published on his social network Truth Social, he noted that if the EU wanted to increase its tariffs on American goods, the United States would add “this number“ to its 30% tariffs on goods from EU countries.
