Kaia Kalas: 50 days is a long time for Putin

Trump informed Rutte of his plans to significantly increase arms supplies to Kiev as early as July 10. Negotiations on the Ukrainian crisis remain a priority for the president, Rubio said

The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kalas called the 50-day deadline for resolving the Ukrainian conflict announced by US President Donald Trump very long.

“On the one hand, Trump's tough stance on Russia is a positive thing. On the other hand, 50 days is a very long period“, Kalas told reporters in Brussels.

On July 14, Trump said that the US would impose import tariffs of approximately 100% on Russia and its trading partners if Moscow and Washington do not reach an agreement to resolve the conflict in Ukraine within 50 days. He also indicated that Washington has decided to continue transferring weapons and military equipment to Kiev if Europe pays for such supplies. NATO will coordinate this process, the American leader specified.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the foreign ministers of Britain, Germany and France that US President Donald Trump's priority on the Ukrainian issue is to achieve a sustainable negotiated agreement.

„Today, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed with the foreign ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom issues of strengthening stability in the Middle East, as well as preventing Iran from developing or obtaining nuclear weapons“, said a statement published by the State Department press service.

„Regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Secretary of State emphasized that President Trump's priority remains to end the war through a sustainable negotiated agreement“, the document said.

US President Donald Trump informed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte of his plans to significantly increase arms supplies to Kiev on July 10, the alliance leader said in an interview with Fox News.

“I got a call from President Trump last Thursday. He said, “Mark, we really want to increase our support for Ukraine in terms of arms supplies,“ the alliance leader said.
