A 7.3-magnitude earthquake shook the Alaska Peninsula, the US National Weather Service reported, quoted by the American television ABC News and BTA.

The epicenter was at a depth of 10 km near Popov Island, which is located about 965 km southwest of the state's largest city - Anchorage.

After the earthquake, authorities issued a tsunami warning.
