German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that sentiment in the economy is already improving, thanks to the first reforms of the new government. “The beginning has been made. The turnaround that will lead Germany out of recession has begun“, he said during his first summer press conference, quoted by DPA, BTA reports.
According to him, the ruling coalition has implemented all its planned projects so far. Economic recovery is the cabinet's top priority, with the first economic institutes already revising their growth forecasts upwards. Merz stressed that investor interest in the country has increased significantly: "We want to ensure that Germany is competitive and innovative again," he said.
The chancellor also stressed the importance of investments supported by the special 500 billion euro fund approved by the previous parliament. The fund aims to stimulate additional investments in infrastructure and climate protection. "It was a difficult decision, but it is necessary. We want people to invest in Germany, and for that we need a functioning infrastructure," he explained.
The second key issue for the government remains migration. According to Merz, a lasting solution to illegal migration can only be achieved at the European level. He noted that the current national border controls are a temporary measure, but necessary. "Municipalities and society can no longer be overwhelmed by illegal migration," the chancellor stressed. At the same time, the government remains committed to ensuring that Germany remains an attractive destination for legal immigration.
