Singapore was hit by a cyberattack, defined by experts as serious and aimed at critical infrastructure, reported Agence France-Presse. According to experts, China is behind the attack. Beijing denied having anything to do with it, reported BTA.

According to Singapore's Home Affairs Minister Kaziwiswanathan Shanmugam, a group known as “UNC3886“ is behind the attack. According to Mandian, a cybersecurity company owned by Google, the aforementioned hacking group is linked to China and has been involved in attacks on a global scale.

The Chinese embassy in Singapore denied these allegations and said it was ready to cooperate with all countries, including Singapore, to protect cybersecurity.

Accusations of cyber espionage against Beijing have increased recently. In May 2024, the British Ministry of Defense was the target of a cyberattack attributed by the media to China, although London at the time only said that a foreign country was likely involved in the attack, without blaming Beijing. On July 9, 2024, the Australian cybersecurity agency warned of a continuing threat to Australia from Chinese cyber hackers. In both cases, China vigorously denied the allegations.
