Hamas negotiators in the Doha ceasefire talks have not been able to contact the group's leaders in Gaza since last Thursday.

This has slowed down the negotiation process, as Hamas has not yet responded to Israel's updated ceasefire proposal.

This has revealed The Times of Israel. The newspaper cited a source familiar with the matter.

Israel's ground operation in the city of Deir al-Bala in central Gaza could further hinder the possibility of restoring contact with the Hamas leadership in the enclave.

However, the source said that the militant group is expected to issue a statement in the coming hours, saying that it is holding positive internal discussions on the Israeli proposal.

In addition, an Arab diplomat told the same news agency that mediators still believe that an agreement can be reached in the coming days, despite the delay in Hamas's response.
