The Israeli army must be prepared for a prolonged campaign on several fronts against the backdrop of a “complex and challenging“ security situation. This was warned by the Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, quoted by The Times of Israel, reports BTA.
He stressed that intense fighting continues in the Gaza Strip, while tensions along Israel's borders remain high.
In a rare multi-front situational assessment, the first in nearly two years, Zamir and senior commanders reviewed the operational, intelligence and strategic picture of all threat areas.
“The Israeli forces must act offensively on several fronts, while maintaining vital defense along all sectors and borders,“ he said. “We will continue to maintain our air superiority and develop our intelligence capabilities.“
The general described the Gaza war as “one of the most complex“ the army has faced, acknowledging the significant human losses, including the recent increase in casualties among Israeli soldiers.
Zamir also emphasized the need to continue operations in the West Bank, as well as against “Hezbollah“ in Lebanon and Iranian targets in Syria.
“Iran and its axis remain in our sights - the campaign against Iran is not over“, he stressed. According to him, 2026 will be focused on strengthening readiness, restoring military capabilities and improving the army's operational capabilities.
