Germany has given the green light to the delivery of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Turkey, a NATO member, according to a Bloomberg source familiar with the matter, FOCUS writes.
The Security Council of the federal government in Berlin has given preliminary approval to the request for the 40 aircraft, according to the same source, who asked not to be named, citing confidential information.
The request was submitted by Turkey in March 2023 for the aircraft, which are the result of cooperation between BAE Systems, Airbus and Italy's Leonardo. Production will take place in the UK, with components sourced from Germany.
A German government spokesman declined to comment, noting that Security Council meetings are classified. The approval was first reported by Der Spiegel.
