US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote in X that Nicolas Maduro is not the president of Venezuela and his regime is not a legitimate government, News.bg reports.
According to Rubio, Maduro is the "head of the Cartel de Los Soles", a narco-terrorist organization that has taken over the country and is accused of drug trafficking to the United States.
We recall that in April, the Venezuelan parliament approved Maduro's decree on an economic emergency in response to US sanctions and tariffs.
In March, the administration of then-President Donald Trump began revoking the licenses of oil companies working with the state-owned PDVSA and imposed secondary tariffs on crude oil and gas exports.
The United States gave companies such as Chevron, Eni and Repsol a deadline of May 27 to cease operations in Venezuela.
In response, Maduro's government warned that it would not accept migrants that Washington planned to deported.
The Maduro regime has always rejected the sanctions as illegitimate measures, describing them as an “economic war“ aimed at crippling the country.
