Three people were killed and 41 were injured after a train derailed in southern Germany yesterday, the Associated Press reported. According to the investigation, the cause was a landslide caused by heavy rains, BTA reported.

There were more than 100 people on the train of the national railway operator "Deutsche Bahn". At least two carriages derailed in a wooded area near Riedlingen, about 160 km west of Munich.

The driver, another employee and a passenger were killed, police said today. Some of the 41 injured are seriously injured.

According to police, heavy rains in the area caused a sewer to overflow, which likely triggered a landslide at the site of the derailment.

Police said there was no evidence that the derailment was the result of an external impact.
