The new trade deal between the US and the European Union is in favor of Washington, but it is completely humiliating for Europeans, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, quoted by TASS.
According to him, US President Donald Trump has crushed Europe. According to him, the deal only serves the interests of the US, leaving the European market unprotected and removing tariffs on American goods.
Medvedev pointed out that the agreement creates huge additional costs for industry and agriculture in many EU countries, resulting from the need to pay for expensive American energy. He explained that it also diverts a huge investment flow from Europe to the US. The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council said that one can only sympathize with ordinary Europeans.
Medvedev noted that although Trump is inconsistent in his statements and actions, he is quite consistent in another thing - aggressively promoting his country's economic interests. According to him, the deal between the US and the EU is aimed against Russia, as it prohibits purchases of Russian oil and gas.
After meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, Trump announced that the United States and the European Union had agreed on a 15% tariff on European imports to the United States. The EU, in turn, will not impose import duties on American goods.
