Thai army accuses Cambodia of violating ceasefire

Unrest and gunfire reported in Phu Makwa area

The Thai army has accused Cambodia of violating the ceasefire, AFP reported, citing a Thai army official.

“After the ceasefire was announced, there were reports of unrest in the Phu Makwa area caused by the Cambodian side, which led to a gunfight between the two sides that continued until this morning“, AFP quoted army spokesman Rich Suksuanon as saying.

Earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced a ceasefire between the Asian countries following talks between Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Vejjaichai and Cambodian Prime Minister Khun Manet in Kuala Lumpur. The ceasefire on the Thai-Cambodian border took effect on Monday, July 28, after five days of military clashes.
