Thailand and Cambodia have agreed not to deploy additional troops on their shared border after signing a ceasefire agreement that ended five days of intense fighting, a Cambodian official said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
Lim Menghour, director-general of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of Cambodia's National Assembly, stressed that it was essential for international observers to monitor compliance with the truce.
According to Thai authorities, initial damage from the conflict, including the cost of evacuating the population from affected areas, exceeds 10 billion Thai baht (about 308 million US dollars). The economic fallout is expected to continue to grow.
Thailand's Finance Minister, Pichai Chunghwajira, announced that the government is preparing an initial budget of 25 billion baht (approximately $769 million) designed to mitigate the economic damage from the conflict and assist affected communities.
