Russian missile strike on training unit kills three, wounds 18 Ukrainian soldiers near Chernihiv

Despite security measures taken, it was not possible to completely avoid personnel losses, Ukraine's ground forces said

Three servicemen were killed and 18 were wounded this evening in a Russian missile strike on a Ukrainian training unit, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing a statement from the Ground Forces of Ukraine.

"The enemy launched a missile strike on the territory of one of the training units of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine", the statement published on "Telegram" reads.

"Unfortunately, despite security measures taken, it was not possible to completely avoid personnel losses. As of 9:30 p.m. "It is known that there are three dead and 18 wounded servicemen," the Ukrainian Ground Forces added.

The statement did not specify where the attack took place, but military bloggers suggested it was in the northern Ukrainian border area in Chernihiv region, Reuters reported.

A Russian air strike on a Ukrainian training center in early June killed 12 servicemen and wounded dozens. The attack prompted the then commander of Ukraine's Ground Forces, Mykhailo Drapati, to resign.
