Workers at the destroyed nuclear power plant “Fukushima Daiichi“ in eastern Japan were urgently evacuated after a tsunami warning was issued. The reason for the measure was the strong earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8, registered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula, operator TEPCO announced, reports Focus.

“We immediately evacuated all our employees and workers“, a TEPCO representative confirmed to AFP. According to him, no anomalies or damage were detected at the facility.

The “Fukushima Daiichi“ suffered a major accident in March 2011, when a powerful earthquake and subsequent tsunami caused severe damage. Since then, the plant has been undergoing long-term cleanup and dismantling activities that are expected to last decades.
