Hamas will continue pointless and ineffective negotiations if the humanitarian situation in Gaza improves

Slovenia imposes arms embargo on Israel

The Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" has signaled that it is ready to resume the interrupted ceasefire talks in the Gaza Strip, but only if the humanitarian situation in the enclave improves first, DPA reported, quoted by BTA, referring to a statement released by the movement late last night.

In its statement, "Hamas" defined the continuation of the negotiations under the current conditions as "pointless and ineffective".

Indirect negotiations between Israel and "Hamas", held in Doha with the mediation of the US, Egypt and Qatar, recently failed.

According to Israeli and American officials, the "Hamas" has ruined the talks with its excessive demands. After the talks failed, the US and Israeli delegations returned to their capitals for consultations.

Both sides have blamed each other for the lack of progress, although neither has officially declared the talks over. "Hamas" accuses Israel of an unjustified withdrawal, while Tel Aviv accuses the Palestinian Islamist movement of deliberately delaying the process.

Slovenia has imposed an embargo on the export, import and transit of arms to Israel, two weeks after declaring two Israeli ministers persona non grata, the Slovenian news agency STA reported, citing a statement from the government in Ljubljana.

The measure was announced by Prime Minister Robert Golob after a meeting of the Slovenian government. Golob said Slovenia was the first European country to take such a step, STA reported.

Slovenia recognized the Palestinian state in June last year and has since repeatedly called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and increased aid deliveries to the enclave, Reuters noted.

Israel condemned last week's declarations by France, Britain and Canada that they might recognize the Palestinian state, saying it would be a reward for the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" for its October 7, 2023, attack on Israeli territory.
