Guterres admitted the ineffectiveness of the UN, Zakharova mocked him with a quote from Mayakovsky

The Secretary-General announced the need to reduce the number of reports and meetings of the organization

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the words of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres about the fact that almost no one reads the reports of the world organization with an excerpt from Vladimir Mayakovsky's poem "The Eternally Sitting"

„Just like Mayakovsky in the immortal "The Eternally Sitting": „You can't sleep from excitement. Early morning. I greet the early dawn with a dream: „Oh, at least one more meeting to eradicate all meetings!“ - she quoted in Telegram.

On Friday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the need to reduce the number of reports and meetings of the organization, citing the excessive workload of the structure and the low efficiency of a number of documents.

Guterres also noted that despite the volume of work done, a significant part of the reports remain poorly noticed: every fifth of them receives less than a thousand downloads.

At the same time, the costs of preparing documents and organizing meetings make up a significant part of the regular budget. According to the Secretary-General, out of every ten dollars in the budget, one goes to direct support for meetings and publications, not counting additional indirect costs.
