The Russian authorities are not ready for any compromises within the framework of the negotiation process to end the war if they do not envisage the complete capitulation of Ukraine. This opinion was expressed in a new report by analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
They drew attention to the statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in which he repeated the narratives expressed the day before by Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko at a joint press conference.
During it, Lavrov again accused the Ukrainian side of delaying the negotiation process, stating that President Volodymyr Zelensky is constantly changing his own conditions for starting negotiations and a ceasefire.
The Russian minister confirmed the Kremlin's position on its key demands for Ukraine. According to him, any peace settlement must eliminate the so-called “ deep causes “ of the war.
War in Ukraine: Negotiations
On July 29, analysts of the Institute noted that Putin will not achieve peace without “ denazification “ of Ukraine. They noted that the Russian leader had promised the Russians to demilitarize Ukraine and now he could not ''go back' from his promise.
And on August 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to Russian President Vladimir Putin's statements by saying that their meeting was necessary to end the war and ensure lasting peace.
