Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that Ukraine and Russia have reached an agreement to exchange 1,200 prisoners of war after the last round of negotiations last month in Istanbul, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

"We have agreed on the exchange of 1,200 people," he wrote in "Ex", specifying that work is underway to compile the lists of people who will be released. We are also working to "unblock the return of our civilians," he added.

There is currently no official comment from Russia on the subject.

Zelensky added that he had discussed with high-ranking Ukrainian representatives the progress of the negotiations, in particular the implementation of the agreements reached during the meetings with the Russian delegation in Istanbul, as well as preparations for the next round of negotiations.

The three rounds of negotiations between the two sides since the beginning of the year have provided an opportunity for a prisoner exchange, but have not led to a breakthrough in achieving a ceasefire, the AP recalls.
