Russia has officially protested to Israel over an alleged attack on a Russian diplomatic car near the Jewish settlement of Givat Assaf in the West Bank near Jerusalem, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, BTA reported.

"On July 30, a car of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in the Palestinian Authority with diplomatic license plates and carrying employees of the Russian mission accredited by the Israeli Foreign Ministry was attacked by a group of settlers near the illegal Israeli settlement of Givat Assaf, near Jerusalem," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement.

The attack was carried out "with the tacit consent of Israeli military personnel who were present at the scene and did not try to stop the aggressive actions of the attackers," she pointed out.

Zakharova also said that the Russian embassy in Tel Aviv had sent an official demarche to the Israeli authorities.
