Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets after another Russian drone attack on Ukrainian infrastructure near the Romanian border, the Ministry of National Defense announced, BTA reports.

„On the night of August 5-6, Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on civilian infrastructure in the Izmail region, Ukraine, near the border with Romania. "Our radar systems detected air targets in Ukrainian airspace near Tulcea," an official statement said.

At around 01:10 local time, residents of the northern part of Tulcea County received a warning through the national "Ro-Alert" system about the danger of falling objects. The explosions in Ukraine were clearly visible from the Romanian bank of the Danube, including in the cities of Galati and Braila, Digi24 reported.

The air alert lasted about 90 minutes. Shortly after, the dispatch center of the Emergency Situations Inspectorate in Tulcea received several reports on the 112 telephone about suspected fires in the Tulcea area and near Isaccea. However, the teams sent to the scene did not confirm any of the reports.

“Following the airstrike, a fire broke out on Ukrainian territory, in close proximity to the border with Romania. This misled citizens into thinking the fire was in the Romanian area. Nevertheless, the intervention forces remained on the ground, ready to respond if necessary. We emphasize that the territory of Romania was not the target of the Russian Federation's attacks," the inspectorate said.

The Ministry of Defense has informed allied structures in real time and is in constant contact with partners about the situation.
