Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has come under fire after admitting he regularly uses artificial intelligence (AI) to get second opinions on issues related to the country's governance, The Guardian reports, Fokus reports.
Kristersson, who leads Sweden's center-right coalition government, said he has used tools such as ChatGPT and the French service LeChat. “My colleagues also use AI in their daily work,“ he said.
The prime minister added:
“I use it quite often myself. Even just for a second opinion – to see what others have done and whether we should think differently.“
However, technology experts have expressed serious concerns about such a practice. The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet accused Kristersson of “falling victim to the AI psychosis planted by the oligarchs“.
Simone Fischer-Hübner, a computer science researcher at Karlstad University, warned:
“Extreme caution must be exercised“, expressing concerns about the use of ChatGPT when working with sensitive information.
The prime minister's spokesman Tom Samuelsson assured that no risks were taken:
“Naturally, sensitive security-related information is not shared. Artificial intelligence is used more as an example.“
Virginia Dignum, professor of responsible artificial intelligence at Umeå University, warned that AI cannot provide meaningful political opinions because it reflects the views of its creators:
„The more we rely on artificial intelligence for basic decisions, the greater the risk of overconfidence. We need to demand guarantees of trustworthiness. We did not choose ChatGPT.“
