Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Ankara's support for Syria's stability and reconstruction after meeting with Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus yesterday, the Associated Press reports, BTA reports.
In a statement on the social network X, Fidan pledged continued assistance in the fight against extremist groups and said Turkey was ready to help manage camps in northeastern Syria that are housing people with alleged ties to the “Islamic State“.
The two also discussed Israel's actions in Syria. In his statement, Fidan accused Israel of pursuing a policy of destabilizing the region and called on the international community to prevent its policies from prevailing.
Ankara has been a strong supporter of the interim Syrian government in Damascus since former President Bashar al-Assad was toppled in a swift rebel offensive last December, the AP recalls. This was Fidan's third visit to Damascus since Assad's fall.
