Thousands of passengers were stranded at the port of Piraeus today after ferries remained docked due to strong winds affecting much of Greece, the Greek newspaper “Kathimerini“ reported, quoted by BTA.

The Coast Guard imposed a sailing ban from the ports of Piraeus, Lavrio, Rafina and the Agia Marina – Nea Stira ferry line, which connects Attica with the island of Evia. According to the weather service, wind gusts are expected to reach 88 km/h.

The ban does not apply to vessels operating on routes to the islands in the Saronic Gulf.

State broadcaster ERT reported that passengers who were due to board the ferry to the Cyclades at 6:45 a.m. were informed of delays lasting until at least 1 p.m., affecting all departures from the Aegean islands.

Travelers are advised to consult local port authorities before setting off, the publication stressed.
