Complex problems have no simple solution! China will continue to support peace talks on Ukraine

Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday, the South China Morning Post reported, citing Chinese state media, Focus writes.

The conversation took place ahead of the expected summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump.

Putin briefed Xi on recent contacts between Russia and the US and said that Russia is ready to maintain close ties with China, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Xi said that China welcomes the continued contacts between Russia and the US, supports the improvement of relations between the two countries and promotes progress towards a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine.

Xi noted that complex problems have no simple solution. He added that China would continue to facilitate talks to resolve regional conflicts.

The Kremlin said on Thursday that Putin and Trump had agreed to meet in the "coming days" to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

Trump has given Russia a deadline of Friday to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine or face tougher sanctions.
