"Iran is against the creation of a corridor that will pass through Armenia and connect the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, and will hinder the implementation of this project in every possible way", said the advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic on international relations Ali Akbar Velayati.

„The implementation of this idea will threaten the security of the South Caucasus, therefore Iran emphasizes that it will focus on ensuring the security of the South Caucasus both with and without Russia. In fact, we are sure that strategically Russia is also against this corridor," he said in an interview with the „Tasnim“ agency.

NATO countries want to weaken cooperation between Iran and Russia by transferring the Zangezur corridor under US control, Velayati noted. Khamenei's advisor also said that Azerbaijan could use Iranian territory to establish a connection with Nakhichevan instead of changing the borders.
