The German defense concern Rheinmetall intends to double the production of 155-mm artillery shells at a new plant in Ukraine, which is currently under construction. This will allow it to produce over 300 thousand shells per year. This was announced on Monday, August 11, by the company's CEO Armin Paperger during the presentation of the half-year financial report, NV reports.

The plant was originally planned to produce over 150 thousand shells per year, but at the request of the Ukrainian authorities, a decision was made to increase capacity.

Paperger also spoke about the difficulties the company is facing in implementing this plan, in particular the lack of Ukrainian funds and bureaucratic obstacles that are delaying the construction of the plant.

Rheinmetall's first plant is already operating in Ukraine as part of a joint venture with Ukroboronprom. In the future, it is planned to build a total of four plants in Ukraine.

On October 26, 2024, the director of the defense concern Rheinmetall, Armin Paperger, announced that the company's first plant is already operating in Ukraine, and the second is being prepared for commissioning.

Rheinmetall is a large-scale German defense concern that produces ammunition and military equipment. In October 2023, the concern established a joint venture with the Ukrainian defense industry.

On March 26, 2024, Rheinmetall received financial assistance from the European Union in the amount of 130 million euros to increase ammunition production. On May 3, the head of Rhainmetall called for an increase in military spending. According to him, the West is not ready for a conventional war.
