US President Donald Trump said today during a press conference at the White House that he will try to return to Ukraine part of the “valuable territory“ captured by Russia during the war, UNIAN reports, quoted by Focus.
Speaking in more detail about the upcoming meeting with Putin, the US president said that it will be “a test“. However, he hopes for a constructive dialogue with the Russian president.
"I will tell him to stop the war, I hope for a constructive dialogue. "After the meeting with Putin, I will call the European leaders," he noted.
Trump said he would not make an agreement at the meeting because it was "not his job" - but a task for Ukraine and Russia.
As for Zelensky, Trump commented that he "gets along" with the Ukrainian president, but still disagrees with him about territorial differences and his persistence in the war. According to the American leader, the war should not have happened at all.
Trump believes that the Ukrainian people are tired of the war and want to put it behind them.
''88% of Ukrainians want a peace agreement'', the American president emphasizes.
