Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation today dedicated to preparations for the upcoming meeting in Alaska on Friday between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced, quoted by TASS and Reuters, BTA reports.
A statement published on “Telegram“ states that the two sides have confirmed their intention to hold full and meaningful negotiations. Putin and Trump are expected to discuss the possibilities of achieving peace in Ukraine.
The plans for the meeting were also confirmed by former Russian Ambassador to the United States Yuri Ushakov, who is currently an aide to President Putin. According to him, the main focus of the talks will be finding a path to lasting peace.
Earlier, the White House confirmed that the meeting between the two leaders will take place on Friday in Anchorage, Alaska.
